About Me...

It is a great privilege to begin my sixth year here within the GOHS Science Department. I am also thrilled to be working as a member of the Wolfpack AVID Team! The wealth of experience and knowledge among my esteemed colleagues, coupled with their collaborative spirit keeps me loving my job year after year!

Our family moved from Michigan to Southern California five years ago, and it has created a new sense of rejuvenation for me.  The opportunity to be back in the classroom is especially exciting.  This will be my eighteenth year in education, and my experiences have allowed me to inspire and motivate students from grades 6 - 12 in Biology, Global and Integrated Sciences, Earth Science, and Anatomy & Physiology, and AP Environmental Science.  But most of all, my students have inspired and motivated me to become a better teacher. I look forward to seeing every student grow and blossom into thoughtful science scholars.

Just months ago I completed my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration through Concordia University, Irvine. Despite being a Michigan native, I earned my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences is from Purdue University in Indiana. In high school I earned a five-year Athletic Scholarship and competed at the Division I level as a member of the Purdue Volleyball Team. I also competed for Purdue as a High Jumper on the indoor track team and was a High School All American in that event. I thoroughly enjoyed coaching volleyball for seven years, and coached basketball, track and field as well.  Although my professional career in the volleyball spotlight was brief, my life experiences fostered a clear understanding of the delicate balance that must be maintained between academic achievement and extra-curricular goals.

My husband is a Purdue Boilermaker as well, but a native of Irvine, California. His mechanical engineering career has taken us back and forth from California to Michigan twice; but now, with our twin girls in mind, Cierra and Deanna, we plan to stay in the Temecula Valley for many years to come! Our family enjoys traveling, horseback riding, snow skiing, golf and tennis.

As I prepare for an outstanding academic year I am encouraged by the depth and breadth of Great Oak Pride that sweeps across our campus. It is an amazing place to teach, and for the unique needs of each student, I aspire to make it an even better place to learn.

So Proud to be a part of the PACK!  ~ Mrs. Irwin
