Tutoring/Intervention/Academic Resources

Intervention Options

GOHS Intervention Page - with calendar of interventions and info/links by department/subject.

1. Mandatory Intervention

Mandatory Intervention involves a teacher, or a strand - ie all geometry teachers, identify students who need to re-learn material, or retake assessments, and they are given passes to go to X room after their break to take advantage of the opportunity to relearn the material, receive tutoring, or retake assessment during the SSR period. They still get their break, yet if they do not show for the intervention after break, then they will receive the disciplinary consequences for defiance.

2.  Voluntary Intervention

Voluntary Intervention involves a teacher, or strand - ie all world history teachers, identify students who could benefit from re-teaching or tutoring and give them the option of going to X location during SSR to get support. It is completely optional and student are NOT disciplined if they do not attend.

Tutoring

1. Start with talking with your TEACHER - ask questions in class about what you don't understand, let them know what you are looking for help on, go on their websites for information/resources, ask them about how you can improve in class and on preparing for your assessments, and ask about intervention options!!!

2. Take advantage of their websites/resources, all intervention options, and all tutoring options - don't rule out online tutoring options!!

3. Be willing to put in more time in outside of class in on reading, taking notes, studying!! Read the books and take notes on what you read - this is ABSOLUTELY necessary for college - get use to doing it now.

Benefits include the following: scores can lead to National Merit Scholarships, recipients and finalists can become eligible for corporate scholarships. In some cases, grants could cover full tuition, good scores can indicate performance on the SAT and provide more free practice paired with Khan Academy's partnership exams-tools. Lastly, your performance will empower you with the information you need to design an SAT study plan that will help you earn your best possible score. See attachments below for the PDF of the Official PSAT Student Guide describing the test and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying factor for more information, including a Master Timeline-College Admission provided by the official PSAT/AP Partner (Khan Academy).
