There are no longer any fees for athletics, but we still need funding for our great program (transportation, meet entries, etc).  This season we are asking all families for a $100 donation to help support our XC program.  Parents can write a check or use the link below to donate to XC.  All donations are voluntary, and the opportunity to give more if you would like to help our program even more is located on the link below.

Meet Highlights:
Boys Varsity upsets #7 in the country Arcadia for their first invite win!  Kevin Chamberlain ran an amazing race finishing 4th out of over 200 to lead the charge!  Season best races by Brenden Emery, Michael Hewitt, and Kaden Lapham showed the boys are coming together at the right time!  Tristin Tapia breaks the frosh boys record running 16:11 and winning the frosh boys race, BUT Jason Bowen also runs 16:11 and finishes a very close 2nd!  Frosh boys win over a talented Glendora team!  Soph boys show they aren't done with their winning ways with Jonathan Lucas and Patryk Giba delivering top 5 performances to lead the soph team to victory!  Brent Acomb runs a solid race to lead the JV boys to a top 3 finish!

The ladies teams ran well, finishing 10 girls in the top 19 in the race!  Pauline Mandel leads the way, but Carly Bauer showed she is ready for the top 7 with a very strong run up front in 17:51!  Youngins Chrissy Calain (17:59), and Haley Dorris (18:05) show the future is very bright!  Frosh-Soph Girls win easily with Miranda Padilla leading the charge.  Also a huge PR for Ashley Cahalan (20:17) show she is one of our top up and comers!  JV girls win the large school race, although Yorba Linda took the overall race (they ran their varsity girls in jv...).  Haley Richins showed she is back to her old self with a stellar performance up front for the Wolfpack!

3rd time in 3 years!

 Girls Win D1 Sweepstakes for 3rd year in a row!  Girls win JV National Champion D1 race for 3rd year in a row!  Girls dominate Freshmen and Sophomore races with scores of 15 (perfect!) and 17 (near perfect!) respectively!  Boys Frosh take 2nd, Sophs win!  JV National Champs team takes 2nd (best finish ever!) and Varsity overcomes adversity to finish 7th overall in loaded field!  Pauline Mandel and Jack Balder lead the varsity teams with amazing races! Great job to all athletes!

Cardinal O'hara team from PA.  The girls had a tough field as well,
and managed to come back for a solid 5th place finish!

for the boys, while Pauline Mandel and Miranda Kewley
ran solid up front for the girls team.  Congrats to both
teams for representing our program so well!

Mt. SAC

 Brandon Messerly and the senior boys put on a show with 4 boys under 10 minutes for a solid win at the Fastback Shootout!  The boys were the overall fastest team of the day, putting 4 boys in the top 8 places out of over 900 athletes!  Brandon's individual win was the fastest time ever by a Riverside Country athlete!  Amazing job boys!  Nate Dog Velarde proved he can hang with the big boys with a solid 3rd place finish to lead the boys to a solid victory.  Jack Balder also placed well in 5th!  The soph boys improved a ton from last year to use solid pack running to place 3rd in their race.  Look for this group lead by Patryk Giba to really improve over the season!  The Frosh boys proved they were gamers, accepting their coach's challenge in still winning despite some of their top boys being out. Anthony Arvizu and David Carvajal lead the way with 4th and 6th place finishes!  Chase Nalitt really showed he has heart in scoring the crucial 5th man points to ensure the team victory!

Even though she was under the weather all week, Pauline Mandel battled back to lead the girls team to another convincing win!  Miranda Kewley stepped up big time to win the Junior girls race, followed by a pack of red uniforms for a sweep of the top 4 spots!  Ashley Helbig cruised to an easy victory in the Sophomore race, with 5 soph girls placing in the top 9!  A big improvement over their 3rd place last year here as 9th graders!  Not to be outdone, the 9th grade girls were lead by Maiya Larson's amazing 11:57 performance to a solid win.  Percy Lyons also stepped up big, and the girls depth really showed here in the 9th graders!

Congrats to the varsity boys on their strong team victory at the Baldwin Park 5k on August 6th!  Brandon Messerly and Eddie Carrillo led the way as the top 2 high schoolers in the race!  Brandon's 15:31 shows that the boys hard work is starting to pay off! 
 

Pauline Mandel ran the 5th fastest female time of the day, but set the record for the fastest high schooler ever on the course in 17:32!  Look for her to be one of the fastest high school girls in the state this year!
 

Coach Soles got back into action with a blazing 32:53 5k running with his wife and 3 babies in running strollers!  In order to improve his time next month at a 5k in Irvine, he asks that athletes and parents refrain from giving him any baked goods, candy, or soda until he breaks 25:00 for a 5k. :)

2011 Time Trial 

The boys showed that they have indeed made huge strides over the summer!  Brenden Emery (SR) pulled off a major surprise in winning the time trial in a new record time of 14:48!  Hot on his heels was fellow SR Eddie Carrillo in 14:49!  Look for the boys to be one of the top teams in the state this year!  Tristan Tapia recorded the fastest time ever for a 9th grader in 17:32!
 

 
Pauline Mandel threw down an unbelievable time to break the course record by 46 seconds, running 16:22!  The rumors of her running at a different level this summer are true!  Super Soph Ashley Helbig also betters the previous course record in 17:04!  Kim & Kelli McNamee prove that Great Oak still has a set of superstar twins!  Frosh Maiya Larsen runs the fastest time ever for 9th graders in 17:51, look for her to be one of the top 9th graders in the State this year!  If anyone thought our girls were going to be slower this year than last, they will be in for a real surprise!  Great work by all athletes this summer!
