String Orchestra

A little bit about us...

String Orchestra is a new program offered at Great Oak High School, which provides performance opportunities for instruments within the string family: violin, viola, cello, string bass. This is a non-auditioned two semesterclass that teaches playing technique on each of these instruments, music theory, basics, sight reading basics, and multiple concerts throughout the school year. This course is open to any high school student whether they are an experienced player or a brand new to a stringed instrument. The focus of this course is music literacy In the context of string, Orchestra, honing, the art of listening, and displaying learned concepts, such as dynamics, rhythms, note reading, Key signatures, time, signatures, accidentals, and scales via formal concerts within an ensemble.

There are traveling opportunities throughout the year, including competitions, festivals, educational field trips, and professional performances. This is a UC approved course and VAPA credit can be earned. All four year members are able to obtain a cord for graduation.

Our Director...

Great Oak High School is privileged to have Mr. Jesse Sun as the Choir and String Orchestra Director on campus.  This year, Mr. Sun will be starting his second year teaching vocal music and will start his first year conducting a string orchestra at GOHS.  He received his Undergrad degree at Cal State Fullerton, with his Master's degree and Credentials from Azusa Pacific University.  We are all truly thankful to have Mr. Sun as part of the Wolfpack!
